What is a currency broker? A currency broker is usually a much overworked stock market broker’s equivalent, but the currency broker trades only on the currency markets such as the Forex market. Currency trading, at least on the Forex market, is a 24 hours a day, quickly evolving and highly volatile place. Money changes value rapidly all over the world due all sorts of trends which pull and push on it based on many factors. The job of the currency broker is to understand these trends and watch them closely. With the Forex market nearly always open this can be an extremely daunting task. In essence a currency broker is much like a stock broker but rather than buying and selling stocks for his clients, he buys and sells foreign currencies. Also unlike his equivalent in the stock market, the currency broker cannot usually simply call it a day when the closing bell rings. A good currency broker, one who wants to make money for both himself and his clients, must be on the ball and ready to make trades at almost any hour.

Currency Trading Professionals

Currency brokers are often misunderstood in the Forex market as well as other international currency trading zones. Currency brokers represent clients by currency trading on their behalf. Currency brokers are not paid commissions like a typical stock broker, but rather make their money on what are called pips. Pips, simply put, are the small difference in asking and selling prices of a given currency during a trade. They are usually minute but can add up to large profits for a high volume currency broker. Unlike stock brokers however, currency brokers are not licensed and therefore often suspected of manipulating currency trades for their own profit. The industry would argue that not only is this not true, but that there is self-policing in the currency trading markets. A currency broker who was involved in altering prices for his own profit would soon find himself with no clients to represent, meaning no profit to make at all.
