How Do I Do Online Stock Trading?

Trading Stocks Online

Trading stocks online is one of the fastest growing investment practices in the world.  Just 20 years ago it would have been unthinkable that 1 in 5 Americans alone would be investing regularly in the major stock markets.  Buying stocks, selling stocks, investing in funds, buying precious metal shares, even executing complex practices like options trading: all online.  Trading stocks online gets easier and more streamlined each year as more investors jump in and also as the online stock brokerage field becomes more saturated with competition.  Just in the last ten years the average per trade price has fallen from $15 to as low as $4 or even less.

Where To Trade Online

To get started trading online involves first deciding on an online stock brokerage firm.  There are many and they run the range from discount stock brokerage firms to more sophisticated ones.  Buying online stocks is the same across the board when speaking of the actual execution of the sale.  With online investing the only thing which differs is the service offered by the online investment firm, and their pricing.  The cheaper, discount online stock brokerage firms focus only one thing: low price per trades for their clients.  More sophisticated firms may charge substantially more for their trades but offer their customers many more tools and assistance.  This can include more detailed online stock research, easier to use website interfaces, and even provide consultations with real online stock trading experts.  Decide on an online stock trading website that fits your needs.

Starting Out Online Trading

Once you have the online stock brokerage firm you want, the next step is to open an account and fund it.  Most accounts can be funded through bank wire transfers, credit and debt cards, and now even in some instances with Paypal.  Once an online trading account is funded the amounts will usually appear in a money market fund account managed by the online stock broker.  From this account one can simply select stocks, mutual funds, or other investment means and start buying.  All transactions will take place online and confirmation will usually be made both to the online account and a separate email account.
