What Are Stock Trading Tickets?
Before the advance of the computer, stock trading tickets were the only means of effecting a purchase or sale of a stock, currency investment, or other market based investment. Since the beginning of the stock market until the 1980´s stock trades were essentially executed in this way only:
The investor calls their stock market investment broker and requests a purchase or sale of a given stock or other investment tool. The broker then would contact the floor as it is referred, the place within the actual market where the buys and sales of stocks take place in real time. The sale would then be made and the amount written on paper stock tickets and confirmed by a stock market representative in person, all by hand. The paper stock tickets were the receipt or proof of sale or purchase.
This system, while now a little outdated, still takes place in the modern day stock market. Stock trading tickets are still in use; however the internet and printing technology has made paper tickets digital and more accurate.
Paper Stock Tickets: Almost Obsolete?
There may be a day in the future where are paper trading tickets are deemed obsolete and out of date. The major factor pushing the end of paper trading tickets is day trading via the internet. These days it is estimated that over 7 million people are trading each day over the internet, day trading stock as it is referred. This is huge amount of the population using electronic, internet stock tickets, especially when you consider this form of trading did not exist just 10 years ago. The day traders invest so rapidly, executing from one to several thousand trades in given stock trading day, that paper stock tickets are not used. Instead of stock trading tickets, everything is completed online using the computer system ECN, or Electronic Communication Network. The ECN´s make stock tickets, those old fashioned paper stock tickets, obsolete. The trades are managed, computed, sold and purchased electronically. While there may always be a need in some way for paper stock trading tickets in some fashion, they may soon find themselves almost completely out of use. The digital age of stock broking, buying and selling online, is quickly becoming commonplace and the choice of a new generation of stock market investors.
